Chikkaballapura: Five people died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries due to an unexplained explosion in a stone quarry in Chikkaballapura of the state.
The incident was reported from Hirenagaveli village under the Peresandra police limits in Chikkaballapur taluk of the district.
Senior officials of the district administration rushed to the spot.
It has been suspected that gelatin sticks brought for the quarry works would have triggered blast.
Senior explosive and forensic experts from Bengaluru also rushed to the spot.
