Bengaluru: According to the sources, the Yadgir District Administration in Karnataka decided to vaccinate 2,882 children against pneumonia. An announcement in this regard was made in a drive that began on Saturday November 20.
Shilpa Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Yadgir Zilla Panchayat informed that Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) would be given to children in three rounds.
She explained that the first dose will be given to infants six weeks after birth, the second will be given at 14 weeks, and the final dose will be given at nine months.
Sharma urged the people to take advantage of the initiative and cooperate with officials from the Health Department to avoid possible pneumonia-related deaths.
The Health Department had decided to include PCV in the vaccination programme earlier in September after reports of a flu-like illness among children in many areas of the State emerged.
