Bengaluru: Job loss, untimely death of near and dear ones, challenges of work from home, financial crisis, social stigmas associated with the Covid – 19 infection, social distancing are a few challenges faced by people especially millennials during the Covid – 19 crisis. Even though the government and private sectors have worked hard to ensure the physical health of one and all, mental health has not been given needed priority. At the individual level, many experts tried to help society in this regard.
A city-based counsellor Ruupa Rao has helped as many as 2,400 persons with counselling and training to overcome these kinds of challenges.
Common problems faced by the people during the Covid – 19 crisis are insomnia (sleep disorder), anxiety, behavioural issues, family problems due to work from home and so on. Over 50% of people faced one or other kinds of issues related to mental health.
Ruupa Rao, a well-known soft skill trainer, and counsellor has counselled over 2,400 persons in this period. Most of the people were facing anxiety, tension due to the job loss, deaths in the families, and other Covid – 19 infused challenges. According to Rao, maintaining mental health was a big challenge for all during the pandemic.
Ruupa Rao says that millennials faced more stress during the pandemic compared to others. “Challenge was problems were different from one another. Everyone’s problem was unique for them. So, we need to follow different methods to counsel them,” she said. “Many people developed physical problems due to poor mental health,” says Ruupa Rao.
