Bengaluru: An eight-year-old student of class 3 died on the spot when he slid from the backseat of the scooter his grandfather was driving and came under the wheels of a bus at Khoday Junction near Majestic on Saturday afternoon.
According to the police, 70-year old Rajanna, who was picking up his grandchildren from school, lost his balance as a KSRTC bus came dangerously close to him from behind.
The boy, Darshan, who was sitting behind his younger sister, slid and fell onto the road and the bus ran over him. Rajanna was picking up his grandchildren — Darshan, a class III student, and four-year-old Niharika — from Vidyavardhaka school in Rajaji Nagar. As it was a half day at school, he decided to take the children to his house in Cottonpet, the police said. The boy was dragged a few feet before the bus finally came to a halt.
“As per the post mortem report, Darshan died of excessive bleeding,” a senior police officer said.
Rajanna and Niharika were unscathed.
Immediately after the accident, autorickshaw drivers and motorists gathered around the bus, pulled out the driver, Vijaya Kumar, and handed him over to the police.
