Bengaluru: According to the sources, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai at the 29th meeting of the Southern Zonal Council on Sunday November 14 has expressed Karnataka’s concerns about irrigation projects undertaken “illegally” by Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

In the presence of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, he has listed the controversial projects and urged the Centre not to approve them.

Tamil Nadu is moving forward with the Cauvery -Vaigai-Gundar link project, despite the fact that it is illegal. In a letter dated February 17, the Karnataka Government requested the Centre not to approve the plan. “We repeat our stance that no statutory clearances should be granted to projects that violate water tribunal awards,” he said.

According to the reports, he has also pointed out on Karnataka’s rightful share of the Cauvery, Krishna and Pennar river basins noting that the State has already informed the National Water Development Agency on July 26, 2019 about the Godavari-Cauvery link project.

CM Bommai further emphasised on the “illegitimacy” of Rajiv Gandhi Sangama Banda barrage proposed by Telangana and the Gundrevula project undertaken by Andhra Pradesh across the Telangana river stating that no development on Krishna water in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh are allowed unless they are part of the allocation.
