CM HDK to sign only Kannada files from November 1

Bengaluru: The ruling coalition partner, JD(S) often uses regional pride to attract voters. One of the arguments put forth by them, while seeking votes, is that it is the true regional party and only it can protect the interests of the state. With the goal of strengthening its claim and keeping an eye on the Kannada votes, CM HD Kumaraswamy announced that from November 1, he will not sign any government documents/files in English.

According to the instructions issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) to the officials, all the files sent to the CM’s office must be in Kannada. “The CM wanted to send a strong message to the bureaucrats who prefer English in the administration,” said sources.

“An order in this regard will be issued soon,” said an officer from the CMO.

According to JD(S) sources, this decision may help the party win over the Kannada voters, who still constitute a big chunk in South Karnataka.
