Bengaluru: On Tuesday November 30, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai presented Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna with the Rajyotsava Award.
The Rajyotsava award is given in 24 categories, with each winner receiving a gold medal and Rs. 1 lakh as cash prize.
“It’s an honour to receive the Rajyotsava Award, one of highest Civilian Awards and for the State to recognise my achievements and contribution to Indian Tennis. I am so grateful to the honorable CM @BSBommai on presenting me this award. @RAshokaBJ. Thankful to everyone,” tweeted Bopanna.
Bopanna started as a professional player in 2003, after representing India in the Davis Cup against Australia in 2002. He went on to become one of the top doubles tennis players in India. In 2005, he received the Ekalavya award.
He finished as runner-up in doubles at the US Open in 2010, partnering with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. Later, he and Gabriela Dabrowski won the 2017 French Open mixed-doubles title, making him the fourth Indian player to win a Grand Slam title.
