Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written a letter to his Goa counterpart Manohar Parrikar requesting him to call a meeting of chief ministers of three states at the earliest to hold discussions on the Mahadayi water dispute.

“Karnataka is ready to join the meeting at any place suggested by Goa. As the Mahadayi Tribunal would conduct a trial from February 6 to 22, it is necessary to find a solution through discussions by the chief ministers of three states”, he said adding that he would also write a letter to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.

Siddaramaiah also mentioned about the letter written by Manohar Parrikar to former CM B S Yeddyurappa which the latter had read out during the Parivarthana rally at Hubballi. “The personal letter that you wrote to B S Yeddyurappa has become viral through the social media. Because of that I write this letter.”

“I had written a letter on 1 September 2016 on calling a meeting of all three chief ministers to resolve the dispute. As advised by the tribunal, the issue can be solved through discussion. I wrote a letter even on May 24 stating that all three chief ministers can discuss the issue on a day in June. I didn’t get reply from you as well as from Devendra Fadnavis”, he added.

Including 7.56 TMC water to Hubballi-Dharwad, on the basis of 75 percent rain dependency, Karnataka should get 14.98 TMC water from Mahadayi River (Central Water Commission prepared this estimation). In this, for the irrigation of draught affected areas it needs around 7 TMC of water, the letter said.
