Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been trying to tweak history for political gain.
Criticising BJP’s opposition to ‘Tipu Jayanti celebrations, the chief minister said the BJP leader shave been saying that Tipu was anti-Hindu. “If that was the reality why would Tipu appoint Purnaiah as Dewan in his kingdom? It is high time they stop tweaking history,’’ he said during Kanaka Jayanthi celebrations here.
The chief minister said his government had decided to celebrate the birthdays of prominent personalities and historical characters as a mark of respect to them.
“Some people oppose such celebrations by categorizing the personalities according to their religion and case. But we should not concede to such demands,’’ he said.
The chief minister said that Kanaka Dasa and Basaveshwara were some of the personalities who worked for the welfare of society, cutting across caste and religious lines.
He presented this year’s Kanaka Shree award to Mysuru-based Dasa literature exponent K Gokulnath, Kanaka Gourava award to K Vasanth Bharadwaj and Kanaka Yuva award to Gavisiddappa H Patil.
