Bengaluru: Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday alleged that communal forces such as Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul (AIMIM) have joined hands with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to harm communal harmony in the country.

The AIMIM and the SDPI have joined hands with the BJP,’’ Digvijay Singh said.

Singh said Congress party has been working to ensure communal harmony and peace in the country since pre-independence era and the Congress activists should carry it forward. “The state government led by Siddaramaiah has been doing good work for the benefit of poor and needy. It has introduced a number of welfare schemes for the benefit of farmers and poor in the state. This government has succeeded in meeting the aspirations of the people but BJP has been working to harm the communal harmony in the country,’’ he said.

Appreciating the state government for taking the right decision on Cauvery issue, he has said the decision of the state government would help the people. “While Congress government is trying to protect in the interests of farmers, state BJP leaders have been trying to politicize Cauvery issue,’’ he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, opined that state government led-by Siddaramaiah need not hesitate to introduce welfare schemes and take up developmental works. “I want the KPCC leadership to take stringent action against those indulge in dissident activities,’’ Kharge said.

Former chief minister and MP from Chikballapur parliament segment M Veerappa Moily blamed BJP leaders for using the surgical attack by armed forces on terror launch pads across Line of Control (LoC). “Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar claimed that no surgical attacks took place in the past. Surgical attacks took place in the past but the issue was not used for political purpose. The Central Government has not released funds for implementing employment guarantee scheme in Karnataka but it had spent Rs 37 crore for publicity programmes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Gundu Rao, KPCC working president, said Siddaramaiah government has been doing good work in the state. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be felicitated in New Delhi on November 4 for doing good work. Siddaramaiah-led government has fulfilled 80 per cent of the assurances given to the voters in the state during the state assembly elections,’’ Rao said.
