Bengaluru: Owing to the ongoing political chaos in the state, the Congress and BJP cadres, on Friday, July 12, moved their respective MLAs to separate hotels in Bengaluru after the Assembly session.
According to a report by the news agency ANI, the Congress lodged its lawmakers at the Clarks Exotica Convention Resorts, while the BJP lodged theirs at the Ramada Hotel. Reportedly, the BJP has booked 30 rooms for two days.
Speaking to reporters, BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said that the party’s MLAs would be moved to a hotel for now and would return on Monday.
The rebel MLAs, as directed by the Supreme Court, met Karnataka Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar on Thursday, but flew back to Mumbai the same night despite the whip issued by chief whip of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, Ganesh Hukkeri. He had directed the dissident MLAs to attend the Assembly session for the passage of the Finance Bill.
He had also stated that several other matters would be discussed during the session and warned that absentee MLAs would be disqualified under the ‘anti-defection law’.
