Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has been trying its hand at an auspicious strategy to win over women in the state.
Its women’s wing plans to present a tulsi sapling, regarded auspicious by devout Hindus, along with turmeric and vermilion during its house-to-house poll campaign. “The idea of presenting them has been approved by KPCC president G. Parameshwara and General Secretary of AICC and Karnataka in-charge K.C. Venugopal,” KPCC Women’s Wing president Laxmi Hebbalkar said.
She said Congress women workers would visit houses and present tulsi sapling along with turmeric and vermillion to women apart from explaining about the programmes launched by Congress government in the state for the upliftment of women. “The door-to-door programme will be for one month,’’ she said.
“Tulsi is sacred for its restorative and spiritual properties. It has special significance in the scriptures. It is a symbol of purity,” she said, explaining why they decided on presenting the tulsi plant. She has also added that it was KPCC president Parameshwara who advised them to present this.
The women’s wing presented tulsi sapling to Parameshwara during the working committee meeting here on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, speaking on women’s reservation, the KPCC president said: “Congress is in favour of reservation for women in politics. The party is ready to offer 33 per cent reservation in allocation of ticket but they have to ask for ticket and be confident of victory in the polls.”
