Bengaluru: Condemning the delay in the release of flood relief funds from the Centre, Congress leaders, led by former chief minister Siddaramaiah, sat in protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Vidhana Soudha here on Wednesday, September 18.
The protesters were seen shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. They demanded that both the Central and state governments, led by the BJP, either respond to the situation aptly or resign.
Meanwhile, the leaders mocked CM BSY asking, “Yediyurappa Yellidiyappa? (Yediyurappa, where are you?)”
Speaking at the protest, Siddaramaiah said, “Malnad, Uttara Kannada, the coastal belt and 22 other districts have been devastated by the recent floods. The state and Central governments have failed to release the relief funds. No temporary arrangements have been made either. Even the schools have been shut down.”
“The situation is such that several villagers have been evacuated and, as no proper arrangements have been made for their accomodation, they are spending their days in bus stands,” he added.
