Bengaluru: In the run-up to the next Assembly election, Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah has promised to initiate an agitation for the Mahadayi river diversion project after the Mekedatu padayatra is completed, in an attempt to woo farmers in North Karnataka, particularly in the Malaprabha basin.
The Congress padayatra has been postponed due to the rise in Covid cases in Karnataka.
Speaking to mediapersons Siddaramaiah on Monday January 24, he said that the Congress will launch an agitation in Kalyana Karnataka in the coming days over the issues of Mahadayi, Krishna, and proper implementation of Article 371 (J).
“Discussions are ongoing at the party forum for a padayatra to urge for the Mahadayi project’s implementation, but a final decision will be made once the Mekedatu padayatra is completed,” he added.
Siddaramaiah slammed the BJP for delaying the Mahadayi project’s implementation, saying, “Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa promised to complete the project within 24 hours after taking office in Hubballi. So, what happened next? Did the people living in the area receive water?”
