Bengaluru: Ahead of crucial BBMP elections, Chief minister Siddaramaiah released Congress vision document for Bengaluru, which promises to make the IT capital of the country one of the top 50 cities in the world.
Attacking ruling BJP, CM said, “They had raised loans by pledging several government buildings as they had no money for the fuel of corporation vehicles. They had even come to me seeking permission to pledge the Town Hall, but I convinced them not to do so by promising financial assistance,” he said. CM, who has been involved in hectic campaigning for the past few days, expressed confidence that the Congress will win the election with an absolute majority. “I can sense that the mood is in our favour. People are fed up with the BJP’s corrupt administration.”

The vision document which is being released just a week after the party released its manifesto has raised many eyebrows. The four page document does not offer any concrete and time bound solutions. It fails to throw any insight into any of the civic issues of the city.

The party has listed the problems which have been discussed and debated several times in the past and promising to solve them if voted to power in the August 22 elections.

In the vision document it is mentioned about enacting a law making segregation of wet and dry waste at the source mandatory, besides setting up more processing units and reducing the dumping of waste in land fills. The party had made a similar promise in the 2013 Assembly elections.

Other promises include, increasing the number of buses by 25 per cent, developing bus priority lanes, building 48-km elevated North-South and East-West corridors, building 50 Tender SURE roads with more space for traffic, completing the first phase of Namma Metro by March 2016 and taking up the second phase at a cost of Rs 26,000 crore, using technology extensively in delivery of citizen services, involving residents in city’s governance, setting up a coordination committee to ensure greater synergy in the functioning of BWSSB, BESCOM, BMTC, BDA, police and others and hiking housing assistance to Rs 3 lakh per house.
