Mangalore: The Karnataka government on Sunday announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation to the family of Kabeer, who was reportedly shot dead by Anti-Naxal Force suspecting him to be a Naxalite on Saturday, April 19.

The minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader said that the government has ordered judicial probe and CID inquiry in the killing stating that there might be a probability that the officials mistook Kabeer, to be a Naxal.

The ANF officials were on night vigil near Shringeri check post on the Chikmagalur-Karkala state highway when they shot Kabeer, a resident of Krishnapur in an encounter on Saturday at Thanikodu. According to some sources, the ANF sleuths opened fire when the vehicle did not stop at their instructions.

Khader said stringent action would be taken against Bajarang Dal men as well, who instinctively attacked Kabeer’s relatives while carrying the body, however as per the reports Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell denied the allegations leveled.

The Home Ministry has assured action against the ANF sleuths who gunned down Kabeer from Surathkal once the Chief Secretary submits a report on the issue but he said that he would want to respond to the matter only on receiving the report. Home Minister also reiterated that a Crime Investigation Department (CID) probe and judicial inquiry will be done into the killing.

The Deputy Commissioner of the district also visited Kabeer’s house and assured that a proper investigation will be taken; he also gave surety that the relativities who were attacked will also be treated. The DC has also promised to speak to the Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur for better relevance to the case.
