Sringeri cops arrest four Bhajrangdal activists for assault on Kabeer family

Sringeri : The Sringeri police have arrested four persons allegedly belonging to Bajarang Dal, in connection with the assault on the relatives of Kabeer, when they went to claim the body.

Around 50 Bajarang Dal men had surrounded the taxi that was hired by the family of Kabeer and assaulted them. They had threatened to kill them and also injured the driver Abdul Salam’s right eye after hitting him with a splinter. His two fingers were fractured right elbow injured in the attack.

The  25-year-old Salam who is admitted to a hospital in Mangalore said “I tried to back up my vehicle but a big stone was thrown on the windshield and then the group hit me with sticks.”  “Another 100 of them were shouting ‘Bajrang Dal ki Jai’. The four police personnel were mute spectators when this happened,” said B C Shekunhi, Jokatte Gram Panchayat member and close friend of the family.

Saffron outfits accused of threatening family members of Pramod Meanwhile, sources said family members of Pramod, son of Mahabala who was driving the cattle laden vehicle along with four others were threatened by Sangh Parivar.

Earlier, Bhajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell denied the allegations levelled against Hindu outfits. They however welcomed the move by the police department in making efforts to thwart cattle trafficking.

Speaking on the attack against the family of the victim, he dismissed any involvement of Bhajrang Dal associates in the attack and said this was a fractured comment passed by vested interests to hold the outfit responsible for an act in which it had no role.
