Bengaluru: Eminent historian, Ramachandra Guha was detained by police during a protest held against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 at the Town Hall on Thursday, December 19.
Speaking about the incident, the historian said that he felt sorry for the police. “They are getting their orders from Delhi. This is wrong,” he said.
He added that “peaceful and ordinary” citizens are protesting against CAA. “Our Home Minister doesn’t want to allow a peaceful protest to take place. Everyone should rise up,” he said.
It can be recalled that prohibitory orders were enforced in parts of the state in response to rumours of the nation-wide protest called on December 19 and 20 against the CAA. The Karnataka state government has prohitbited the people from assembling and protesting. Police have been deployed in Town Hall area in Bengaluru.
Throughout Bengaluru city and the Bengaluru Rural District, section-144 of the CrPC, which prohibits the gathering of four or more people, has been enforced from 6 am today for the next three days.
