Bengaluru: To keep anti-social activities in check during Tipu Jayanti celebrations scheduled for November 10, the police have launched a ‘good morning beat’ to step-up security at religious places and sensitive spots. Jurisdictional beat policemen have been directed to identify and secure locations and use social media platforms and WhatsApp to connect with residents.

“The good morning beat is an extension of the night beat where personnel have been instructed to take immediate and corrective action if required,” said a senior police officer. “It will help us keep anti-social activities in check. It is not limited to Tipu Jayanti alone, but will continue even after,” said the officer.

A circular was issued from the office of the Director-General and Inspector-General of Police to senior police officers, directing them to take immediate measures to strengthen security measures and ensure that Tipu Jayanti celebrations are peaceful.

The circular notes that no permission should be given to conduct public programmes, rallies and marches. Police officers have been asked to conduct meetings with leaders of all communities at station and mohalla levels to main law and order.

The police have also been instructed to prepare a detailed report on incidents during the celebrations over the last three years, and take preventive action against anti-social elements and habitual offenders. “The police officer concerned should monitor activities related to this on social media and keep a record of hate speeches and write-ups,” stated the circular.
