Bengaluru: After a 26-year-old woman passenger filed a case against an Ola cab driver for allegedly molesting her, the cops grew furious about the issue. As a solution to the issue, the city police decided to take a glance at the bars, wine stores and hotels near liqour joints.
The cops’ motive behind paying visits to liquor shops is to prevent the growing harassment of women. However, the police have said that there have been no arrests or detentions made.
Police commissioner T Suneel Kumar was quite upset about the incident. He expressed his agony at a weekly meeting held at his office on Tuesday, June 5 where a DCP said, “We were directed to fish out miscreants, habitual offenders and other anti-social elements from these joints. The agenda behind this was for these areas to be under high alert.”
Police sources said that pockets of Whitefield, south and southeast parts of the city, Majestic, KR Market, Shivajinagar and eateries and liquor joints along the Outer Ring Road were their main targets of the checks.
A senior police officer said that this would be a continuous process and night patrol officials have been directed to be on high alert. They have also been instructed to check vehicles along the Outer Ring Road, roads leading to the airport and the central business district.
