Bengaluru: As the number of Covid-19 cases is on the rise in several countries, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said he will convene a conference with senior officials soon to review the State’s precautionary measures.

Minister of Health and Medical Education Dr. K. Sudhakar informed the State Legislative Council on Monday that there are suggestions for making masks mandatory indoors in public places, which will be reviewed at the meeting. While there is no need to panic, he advises that people follow Covid-appropriate behaviour.

The Minister further said that the new Omicron strain BA.2 was discovered for the first time in the Philippines and is now found in around 40 countries. “The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which had predicted the country’s third wave, has now stated that if there is a fourth wave, it will happen in August 2022. The country’s massive vaccination programme will aid in the fight against the next wave. There is a need of adhering to the Covid protocol,” he remarked.
