Bengaluru: Owing to the Covid – 19 pandemic, the public will not be able to attend the Republic Day parade at the Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru. After assessing the event’s preparedness, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta on Monday January 24 said that only those with invitations and passes will be permitted to join the event.

Despite the fact that just 200 individuals have been invited, Covid-appropriate behaviour such as wearing a face mask and maintaining social distance is mandatory.

Those taking part in the march are also completely vaccinated and tested for Covid – 19, he added.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot will receive the Guard of Honour and unfurl the National flag.

Security has been strengthened in and around the arena, said City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant. As many as 52 CCTV cameras have been placed, as well as a master control centre. In addition, as part of the security procedures, 14 teams have been formed.

He also said that a new practise has been implemented in which police teams from other states will be included in the parade. “This year’s procession will include an Andhra Pradesh police team.  All Covid rules will be followed and marshals will be present to ensure that no rules are broken.  Six KSRP squads will be stationed, as well as Gardua soldiers. On January 26, traffic restrictions will be implemented in the area surrounding the stadium, including Infantry Road and Cubbon Road,” he added.
