Bengaluru: A 50-year-old convict facing death penalty in at least three cases of murder, on Monday chose to argue himself by withdrawing the services of his lawyers for presenting his appeals before High Court.
The convict, K. Mohan Kumar, had written letters to the High Court from the prison seeking permission to argue the appeals himself, and a Division Bench allowed his plea.
Kumar was convicted by a Mangaluru court in December 2013 in separate cases of murdering three women. It was the case of the prosecution that Kumar used to lure gullible women by offering them jobs. He took them to lodges in different cities on the pretext of interview where he used to rape and kill them by offering them beverages mixed with cyanide.
He was booked in 20 such cases reported between 2005 and 2009, and in four of such cases has been convicted, and sentenced to death in three and to life imprisonment in one case.
