Davangere: Former chief minister and Opposition leader Siddarmaiah has taken a jibe at the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government for abolishing the “Shaadi Bhagya” scheme.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, March 8, Siddarmaiah said, “By removing the ‘Shaadi Bhagya’ scheme, BSY government has proved that it is anti-minority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. Is this the way the BJP strives towards people’s betterment? All the BJP leaders are anti-constitutional as they believe only in Manusmriti and not the Indian Constitution.”

It can be recalled that the “Shaadi Bhagya” scheme, which was implemented during the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for the marriage of Muslim women, was stopped by BJP government by rolling out a notification on Saturday, March 7. The government order instructed the minority welfare department to stop receiving applications under the scheme.
