Davanagere: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has hinted that the BJP has changed its stand on the age limit issue by publicly announcing that 77-year-old veteran MLA S. A. Ravindranath will contest again from Davanagere North Constituency in next year’s Assembly elections.

Speaking at a function to mark the birth anniversary of senior MLA S. A. Ravindranath at Shiramagondanahalli in Davanagere Taluk on Saturday November 26, Bommai said Rabindranath is a statesman. There is no question of him retiring. There should always be elders like him in politics. He appealed to the people of the Constituency to support him and make him win.

The sitting MLA Rabindranath is now 77 years old. As per the BJP’s current rules (those above 75 years of age are not allowed to contest), there was widespread talk in the Constituency that he would not get a ticket in the next elections. That is why there were many aspirants in the region. Now the Chief Minister’s new announcement has created panic among the aspirants.
