Bengaluru: Whitefield division Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Ahad rewarded two police constables for averting an ATM robbery in Marathahalli police limits.
Constables Usman and Beerlingappa were on their routine night beat on Saturday, when they saw a man near an ATM kiosk at Marathahalli around 1.45 a.m. They realized that something was wrong especially when a man fled on seeing them. Usman slowly walked into the kiosk while Beerlingappa stood guard. On entering the kiosk, Usman saw another man trying to smash the ATM machine with a boulder.
He pinned him to the ground. The constables handed over the accused, identified as Jacob, to the police, and alerted the control room. A lone security guard was asleep when the incident took place. Based on information given by the constables, the police also arrested Jacob’s associate, Vinod.
DCP Whitefield Abdul Ahad rewarded the constables with Rs. 5,000 each. “Such appreciation is necessary to boost the morale of the force and encourage them to do more good work,” he said.
