Bengaluru: Assembly Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said the debate on electoral reforms should begin in all spheres of society, including the legislature. He has said this ahead of the Joint Session of the Karnataka legislature, which is set to begin on February 14.
Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday January 29 he said, “I will also write to the government, requesting that a debate be held in the House on this matter.”
He claimed that a month of deliberation with dignitaries from various fields, including education and politics, had convinced him that this was the urgent need of the hour.
Kageri also said that money, caste, and muscle power had made a mockery of democracy.
He believes that a debate on reforms will create an opinion as discourse will play a greater role as it was done during the Emergency.
