Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has asked the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly to decide on or before May 7 the plea that the JD(S) submitted two years ago seeking disqualification of seven of its MLAs for voting against the party’s candidates by violating the whip in the elections held to the Rajya Sabha in 2016.
Justice Raghavendra S. Chauhan passed the order while partly allowing the petition filed by JD(S) legislators, C.N. Balakrishna and B.B. Ningaiah.
The petitioner had sought direction to the Speaker to decide their plea to disqualify B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, N. Cheluvarayaswamy, A.B. Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, H.C. Balakrishna, Akhanda Srinivas Murthy R., Iqbal Ansari, and S. Bheema Naik.
However, these seven MLAs had resigned in March this year soon after recent elections to the Rajya Sabha when the petition against them was pending for adjudication before the High Court.
