Bengaluru: An advocate has filed a complaint against the president and secretary of the Indian Medical Council (IMA), Karnataka chapter, with the Karnataka Medical Council, alleging that the doctors’ protest led to 51 deaths in the state.

Private doctors were up in arms against amendments to Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act, 2017 that prescribes fixed prices for treatments and also holds them accountable in case of medical negligence.

Advocate S Nataraj Sharma said he complained against the IMA, Karnataka chapter, as its president H N Ravidra continued the protest on Friday in Belagavi despite the high court requesting doctors to call off the stir. “It’s against the code of conduct for doctors to protest. The media has reported that there were 51 deaths in the state when the doctors went on strike. This matter has to be investigated,” said Nataraj.
