Bengaluru: State Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa on Sunday said that more evidence was to be collected before writing to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka to probe allegations made against Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi.
Speaker opined that the documents submitted by the party are not sufficient for the ouster of Upalokayukta.
After holding a meeting with the Special Investigation Team, led by Additional Director-General of Police Kamal Pant, who is probing the allegations of corruption in the Lokayukta office, Speaker said, “ Prima facie I am convinced. But more documents are needed to justify the charge of misuse of office, misconduct and overstepping jurisdiction levelled by the Congress MLAs in their petition.”
“I may need another week’s time to write to the Chief Justice seeking an investigation. We have to be careful before sending it to the Chief Justice for investigation. I feel that there is prima face evidence that Adi had shown favouritism to protect somebody. But we are collecting more materials.”
During the winter session, the Assembly adopted motions on the removal of Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao and the Upalokayukta.
The ruling Congress alleged that Adi had overstepped his jurisdiction and closed cases against his relatives. The Opposition BJP opposed the motion and termed it anti-democratic.
