Bengaluru: Bengaluru is a true cosmopolitan city, with people of different states living here. With the growth of IT industry, the number of hotels has also increased in Bengaluru. Biryani is undoubtedly the most popular non-veg cuisine. Even in Bengaluru, Biryani is very popular. There are different types of Biryani served in Bengaluru. Right from Ambur Biryani to Hyderabadi Biryani, all types of biryani are found here. However in Bengaluru, a particular type of Biryani called Donne Biryani has been able to make a mark for itself in last few years.
Bengaluru is flooded with Donne Biryani outlets. The biryani which is served with eco friendly palm leaves is one of the most loved foods in Bengaluru. ‘Donne Biryani’, which was found only in certain hotels of Bengaluru is now found in almost all areas, thanks to its popularity. Donne Biryani is truly a special type of biryani with the intoxicating blend of spices, coriander, mint leaves and ghee, which gives out a quintessential aroma that would hit you nostrils. The Biryani is prepared by Jeera Rice and not by Basmathi rice, which is the most preferred rice for Biryani. It may be either Chicken or Mutton Donne Biryani.
Donne Biryani is tasty with rural touch. Anil, a techie who stays in Basaveshwarnagar says, “Donne Biryani is mouthwatering. The taste is unique. We cannot get the same taste in other Biryani. I make sure to have Donne Biryani at least once a week. I hardly get place to sit down as hotels crowded. Visit any Donne Biryani outlet on a Sunday and you can see a big crowd of people waiting to binge since 8 in morning.”
The best part of these Donne Biryanis is that they are affordable. Unlike Hyderabad Biryani, which is usually priced from Rs 150, Donne Biryani is priced from Rs 80 to Rs 120. The price is more for Mutton Donne Biryani.
Some of the most popular Donne Biryani outlets in Bengaluru are Donne Biryani Mane, Hotel Shivaji, Donne Biryani Adda and Gundappa’s Donne Biryani. The hotels are being structured in franchisee model, with many hotels being operated in different part of the cities.
Even though many Donne Biryani outlets are coming up, most of them are not able to maintain the taste. Raju, a foodie said, “Donne Biryani outlets are becoming like fast food chain. Many outlets are opened. However, the taste varies from places. Donne Biryani is prepared by expert chef. With many outlets being opened, there is shortage of chefs, which is leading to poor taste in many outlets. Proper care should be taken, so that Donne Biryani tastes similar in all outlets.”
Donne Biryani has gained immense popularity in the last few years. Priced moderately, it is also slowly gaining popularity in other parts of Karnataka.
