Bengaluru: On the second day of the BBMP monthly meeting, high drama over the quality of meals supplied at the Indira canteens ate away a lot of precious time.
Majority of the members declined to eat the meals supplied from the canteen stating that the food was unsavoury.
On day 1 of the meeting (Tuesday), out of 500 meals supplied from the Indira canteen to the BBMP corporators only 200 were utilised as most of the members declined to eat them. On Wednesday the issue turned into a major controversy.
All started at around 1 PM, when mayor Gangambika Devi adjourned the meeting for lunch break. All the corporators were requested to join for lunch. Knowing it fully well that the lunch was supplied from the Indira canteens, most of the corporators declined to join the mayor and commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, saying that the quality of the food is bad.
Corporator Umesh Shetty presented a parcel of lunch brought from Nagarabhavi Indira canteen to prove the point. But the mayor who tasted the sample denied the allegation and said quality and taste of both the meals are the same.
Later majority of the corporators ordered a separate meal from private hotels and ate separately. Few corporators informed that their parents asked them not to eat the Indira canteen food saying it’s of bad quality.
