Bengaluru: As many as 29 more taluks will be declared as drought-hit by the State government. Already 110 taluks had been declared drought-affected earlier. With this, as many as 139 of 176 taluks in the state will be included in the drought- hit list.
Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa chaired a meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee in Bengaluru on Saturday in which the decision to include more taluks in the drought-hit list was taken. An official announcement on declaring more taluks drought-hit will be made after a meeting of the state Cabinet scheduled to be held later this week.
Thimmappa speaking to mediapersons said the government has submitted a report to the Centre seeking a compensation of Rs 3,373 crore for drought relief. A Central team is scheduled to visit the drought affected areas of the state from November 2 to 5.
