Bengaluru: Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister K. S. Eshwarappa on Thursday January 7 said e-Belaku aims at streamlining electricity consumption in rural areas.
He was speaking at launching programme of ‘e-Belaku’, a platform to help the Gram Panchayats (GPs) easily repay dues online. The online platform has been developed in coordination with BESCOm. Minister said, “The Gram Panchayats (GPs) owed Rs. 4,229 Crore to electricity supply companies despite timely release of funds from the government. In spite of the Government already directing the GPs to clear dues many have failed,”he noted.
Stating that ESCOM’s are not without fault, Eshwarappa said in several panchayats, electricity metres have not been installed and in some places, the metres are not functioning properly, and in such places bills are being generated which is unfair,” he said and added taking all these above problems into consideration, the RDPR Department has launched ‘e-Belaku’.
