Engineer turned chain-snatcher lands behind bars

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru HSR Layout police, on Friday, chased and arrested a 40-year-old man, involved in 20 incidents of chain snatching in the area.

The man Prabhakar, a native of Andhra Pradesh and a resident of Kudlu near Parappana Agrahara holds a diploma in mechanical engineering.

As per the police, Prabhakar quit his job in an IT company, to start his own business venture some years back. Since his business did not seem to be making profits, Prabhakar started borrowing money from private lenders.

Later, Prabhakar resorted to chain snatching, to repay the mounting loans and targeted elderly woman. He is said to have managed to repay Rs 10 lakh worth of loan by pledging the robbed valuables.

On Friday, his luck however ran out as the police on patrol duty spotted him fleeing after robbing a lady and gave him chase. Prabhakar ended up crashing his bike into a road divider and injuring self while trying to escape.

The police detained Prabhakar and took him to a hospital from where he was taken into custody.
