Bengaluru: Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced that out of 21 lakh farmers who are eligible for the loan waiver under the farm loan waiver scheme, around 17 lakh farmers have less than Rs.50,000 loan. “Their loan will be waived off in the first installment,” he stated.

Speaking at a high-level meeting on the farm waiver scheme, he stated that a few months ago, all the nationalized banks had offered 50% cut if the farmers come forward to repay farm loan in a single installment. “We have sought an extension of the scheme to the state government also. Instead of farmers, the state government will pay the amount,” he said.

“On December 8, in Sedam and Doddaballapura, the farmers will get debt-free certificates from the district in-charge ministers. By January 2019, all the farmers will get such a certificate. We will hold a mammoth convention of the beneficiaries in Bengaluru in the month of January,” he said.
