Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta has sought the help of City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant in the drive against illegally installed flexes and banners. He said that police support is needed to take legal action and prevent any untoward incidents during the drive.
According to sources, Pant has reportedly assured the BBMP Chief Commissioner of his cooperation.
Gupta has asked BBMP Zonal officials to file a FIR with the local police station concerned against people putting up illegal flexes and banners at a virtual meeting on Monday February 28.
“There should be no flexes, banners, or buntings in the City. With the help of the police and BBMP marshals, illegal banners should be removed. For the drive, BBMP vehicles should be used,” he said.
“Installing flexes, banners, flags, posters, and buntings in the City is a punishable offence under the BBMP Act, 2020, and Section 3 of the Karnataka Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981. Displaying illegal banners, among other things, is destroying the City’s aesthetic beauty. All Zonal officials should take up the drive against such practices immediately,” Gupta added.
On February 10, the BBMP initiated a campaign to remove illegal flexes, banners, and buntings. Over 1,200 banners were taken from various places throughout the City on the first day of the initiative.
