Finally, Bengaluru gets exclusive cyber crime police station

Bengaluru: “In 2013, the state government had sanctioned the opening of six cyber police stations across the state. The cyber police stations in Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Davanagere and Mangaluru are already being operated by the sleuths of Crime Investigation Department (CID),” said DG & IGP Om Prakash here on Monday after inaugurating a dedicated cyber crime police station at City Police Commissioner’s office on Infantry Road.
Advisor to Home Minister, Kempaiah, along with DG & IGP Om Prakash, and city top cop N S Megharikh, inaugurated the cyber crime police station in IT capital on Monday. It is 6th of its kind police station which is dedicated to deal with cyber crimes.

Om Prakash speaking on the occasion said, “The citizens of Bengaluru city, Bengaluru rural, Ramanagar, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapura and KGF can file complaints in this police station. Cyber offences like the debit/credit card frauds which are more than a lakh and online scams which is more than Rs 5 lakh can be registered in this police station, while the rest of the cyber crimes complaint can be filed at local police station. The local police stations can transfer the case if they find it difficult to crack,” he said.

The Cyber Crime police station will be handled by CID officials in the other five units run in the state as well. After a period of two years, it will be handed over to the city police commissionerate. By the time the necessary training to the the personnel will be provided.

Bengaluru city topped with as many as 675 cases registered under Information Technology Act 2000. In 2013, 533 cases were reported in Karnataka state and in 2014 it increased to 1,020. But only 104 persons were arrested in 2013 and 372 in 2014.
