Bengaluru: Five people were killed and around 10 others were injured on Sunday night when a compound wall of a luxury residential apartment complex collapsed on a temporary shed near Hegde Nagar in Bangalore North.

According to the police, all those affected were construction labourers working at RR Signature, a residential apartment complex, and were living in a temporary shed. The police said that the compound wall, constructed with hollow bricks, collapsed on the shed, killing four on the spot and injuring around 10 others. One of the injured people succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to the Regal Hospital at Chokkanahalli.

TM Vijaya Bhaskar, administrator, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) visited the spot on Monday morning and advised Sampigehalli police to register a criminal complaint against the builder for negligence.

Reportedly, one person named Imran Kamram Khan, an electrician, Imran Pasha, a driver and Yashim Khan, a tailor – the accident took place at 8.40 pm on Sunday night. “The compound wall was constructed with substandard material. The construction material was dumped adjacent to the compound wall. The contractor too did not take measures to drain the stagnated water. Heavy rain that lashed Bangalore on Sunday night has also caused water seepage,’’ Imran Khan alleged.

When the construction workers living in other sheds called for help, the trio came to the rescue of those injured. “I called some of my friends to join the rescue work. I was happy to help these people who had come from other states to earn a livelihood,’’ said Imran Pasha.
