Bengaluru: Five persons were arrested by Central Crime Branch (CCB) and west division police in connection with the murder of former corporator Rajeshwari’s husband Umesh Belagod, The arrested has been identified as R Arun Kumar (35), resident of Maddur, H S Jayaram (28), Srinivas (19), R Vijay Kumar (25), residents of Nayandanahalli and M S Avinash (23), resident of Malavalli.
Speaking to reporters, Prathap Reddy, additional commissioner of police (west) said, “the deceased Umesh was into real estate business and was booked in two cases in Chandra Layout police limits. Umesh and Arun were friends in real estate and other business from 5-6 years and were also partners in crime. The friendship turned to enimity after Umesh did not help the accused in getting bail from a case.” Reddy said, “Umesh had taken help from the accused R Arun Kumar in encroaching land in Chandra Layout. Umesh had allegedly encroached upon a portion of land by constructing a compound overnight and Arun and his men had shielded him. While Umesh had paid money for the team also had assured to help them in tough situations.
Arun and his men were arrested by Byatarayanapura police in a robbery case. The accused had sought help of Umesh to get bail. Umesh ignored their requests. Later Arun and his men came out on bail taking financial help from other sources. In an act of revenge, Umesh was murdered by the gang. The gang under the influence of alcohol was waiting for Umesh near Ideal township near Mysuru road. The accuseds topped his car and attacked him with lethal weapons. He tried to escape by opening the door and was chased by the assailants for about 500 metres before being hacked to death at around 10.30pm. The accused had fled from the spot in a vehicle which was later identified in an isolated place. While police traced the accused from the mobile tower location and nabbed them. The prime accused Arun has 11 cases which includes clash, robbery, dowry harrasment, kidnap and many more. He came out on bail and later was absconding.Police were in search of him
