Former DG-IGP Shankar Bidari loses Rs 89,000 in OTP scam

Bengaluru: Every day, a large number of people are duped by online scammers who pose as bank employees, collect OTPs, and take money under the guise of EKYC updates. Former Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG and IGP) Shankar M. Bidari, has now become a victim of the scam and has lost Rs.89,000 in total.

According to the complaint lodged by Bidari with the CEN Police, the incident occurred on October 11. Initially, they sent him a message alerting him that his account needed to be updated. They later collected OTP while posing as bank officers and withdrew the money.

The police has launched an investigation. The police has warned users not to share their OTPs with anyone. They urged people to follow the safety rules that they had issued.
