Former Mp G Made Gowda Passes Away

Bengaluru: G Made Gowda, a Gandhian and former Member of Parliament, passed away due to an age-related ailment at a hospital in Mandya district on Saturday July 17, according to family sources.

He was 93 years old and is survived by two sons and two daughters. Gowda, also an agriculturist was a graduate from Mysuru’s Maharaja’s College.

Gowda was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi to join the freedom struggle and imprisoned for various periods between 1942 and 1947.

Between 1962 and 1989, he was a six-time MLA from the Kirugavalu Assembly Constituency, and elected to the ninth and tenth Lok Sabha.

In a condolence letter, Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa said Gowda imparted Gandhi’s teachings and was at the forefront of the Cauvery River water sharing distribution protests.

Former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda too has expressed his sorrow on the demise of Made Gowda, who was the Cauvery Hitharakshana Samiti’s president.
