Bengaluru: Former underworld don Muttappa Rai is no more. He breathed his last on the wee hours of Friday.
His body has been taken to his residence in Bidadi where the final rites will be held.
Former employee of erstwhile Vijaya Bank, 68-year-old Rai was suffering from lung cancer for last one year.
He was treated in Singapore, New Delhi and Manipal hospital.
He was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday night after his health deteriorated.
It can be recalled that in 2013 his first wife Rekha also succumbed to cancer and in 2016, he married a businesswoman named Anuradha.
Born in Nettala in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district to the Narayana Rai and Susheela Rai couple, he shot to fame with the murder of Don Jayaraj on November 21, 1989.
He is also accused of murdering Oil Kumar, Amar Alva, and Sharath Shetty. He was extradited to India in 2002 when LK Advani was the home minister.
He is survived by two sons Rakhi and Rikki.
