Bengaluru: Four school students of a city school were asked to march out of school by the school administration, which issued transfer certificates to them over written sexual graphic content in diary.
Two students had scribbled graphic sexual content in a diary, while the other two had helped them hide it from the teacher to rescue their classmates, fearing stringent action. The school taking cognisance of the matter, took a sudden decision to issue transfer certificate to four students to remove them from school rolls during the first half of this month.
The move by the school administration has resulted in furore among the parents of students at the receiving end accusing the school of not giving an ear to their plea before taking action. Child right activists supporting the parents lodged a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, saying TCs were issued without counselling.
In response, Dr. Kripa Alva, Chairperson of the State Child Right Protection Commission has summoned the parents, school authorities and officials from the Department of Public Instruction for a discussion. A decision on the future course of action will emerge after consultation, she revealed.
“Lack of sex education in schools is the root cause behind the problem and to make matters worse parents shy away from talking about it. With uncontrolled media influence, adolescent children do not have a proper channel to release their emotions and deal with these issues,” said Suchitra Rao, who works in the field of child rights and child protection.
There are reports of a handful supporting the school in this regard, but the school remains tight lipped over the incident.
