Bengaluru: One of the most famous proverbs related to marriage goes, ‘Marriages are made in heaven’. A marriage held in the premises of Shri Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, Melukote in Mandya on Thursday December 2 denoted the same. This marriage was unique for many reasons.
The marriage has a backdrop of 35-year-old love story. Chikkanna, a resident of Hebbal in Mysuru fell in love with one Jayamma, a girl next door when he was 30 years old. But Jayamma rejected his love and married another person. However, her husband deserted her within days of marriage, and she ended up staying in houses of her various relatives.
Chikkanna, with broken heart decided to stay unmarried for the rest of his life. As he also moved out of his native place he was not aware of Jayamma’s fate or whereabouts.
Recently he became aware that Jayamma was all alone. He decided to propose to her again and this time Jayamma, accepted it. In a happy ending, the duo married at the Melukote Temple.
