Bengaluru: According to sources, 24 gold biscuits worth Rs. 1.4 crore that have been hidden under the passenger seat of an IndiGo plane after it arrived from Dubai, were seized at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday January 4.
Investigators has informed that the gold bars were strategically placed by the smuggler as part of a plan for them to be collected from the aircraft at a later stage, possibly by another gang member.
According to KIA sources, the 2.8kg gold biscuits were found on IndiGo flight 6E 096 (Dubai to Bengaluru). The flight, which was filled with passengers from the UAE, arrived at KIA at 10.30 am on Tuesday, and all passengers disembarked.
Following a tip-off, sleuths of Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Bangalore Customs searched the area thoroughly and found two bar-like items taped to the bottom of a passenger seat with grey duct tape. Officers cut it open and discovered 24 gold bars within.
Investigators are trying to ascertain the identity of the passenger. The gold is estimated to be worth roughly Rs. 1.4 crore.
