Bengaluru: According to sources, a 38- year- old Sudanese woman arrived at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with 535 gm of gold paste hidden in capsules in her rectum.

During her effort to flee with the smuggled gold worth Rs. 26.11 lakh, she was arrested by Bengaluru Customs.

According to authorities at Bengaluru airport, the incident happened on the evening of Tuesday December 21 following the arrival of Air Arabia flight G9 498 from Sharjah to Bengaluru.

When the passengers exited around 9.30 pm, customs sleuths on duty on the terminal level intercepted the African woman who was found in a suspicious manner. The officials interrogated her to see if she was a Sudanese citizen who had come to India on a medical visa.

After interrogation, she handed over the capsule, which officials weighed after melting the paste into a solid block and found that it contained 535 grams of gold worth Rs. 26.11 lakh.

According to sources, an investigation is underway to determine whether she was acting alone or as part of an international smuggling gang with links to Bengaluru.
