Bengaluru: As the State Government machinery is busy with by-elections, the two key posts in the district lies vacant.

The two posts lie vacant only because the newly appointed bureaucrats are not to the liking of local influential politicians, inform the sources. The State Government on October 11, transferred Raichur Deputy Commissioner Dr. B. C. Satish as Kodagu Deputy Commissioner while Kodagu DC Charulatha Somal was posted as  Raichur DC. Dr. Satish had taken charge just 78 days back when he received transfer order to Kodagu after assuming charge. It is said that Sathish’s untimely transfer was caused by an influential politician of Raichur who even prevented Charulatha Somal from taking charge as Raichur DC.

Netizens in social media are trolling State government’s apathy saying that Raichur District has become an orphan with no DC because it is the key post of the district.

The same problem has surfaced in Mandya District also. While in Raichur it is the Revenue Department, in Mandya it is the Police Department. The State Government on October 20 transferred 9 IPS officers including the then Mandya Superintendent of Police Dr. Ashwinias COD SP, Bengaluru. Dr. Ashwini had assumed office just 8 months back.

The government has posted Mysuru Police Training Academy Deputy Director Dr. Suman D. Pennekar as Mandya SP. But even after 8 days, Dr. Suman is yet to take charge in Mandya as she is said to have received oral instructions from the Department of Personnel Administration and reforms (DPAR) not to take charge till further orders. Here too it is reported that an influential babu has prevented Suman from taking charge as she is a known to be a strict officer. Sources inform that the influentials are afraid that Dr. Suman would stop illegal activities such as mining that goes unabated here.

The State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra who reacted to the allegations in Bengaluru told reporters that there is no obstruction from government to Dr. Suman taking charge in Mandya. He said officers have time to report to duty.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Mandya District Unit President H. D. Jayaram has sent a memorandum to State Governor Tawaarchand Gehlot urging him to instruct State Government to appoint SP to Mandya district soon. He also warned of protest if the government does not appoint SP soon.

In social media netizens have put up posts saying that bidding for the post of Mandya SP has begun and that the post would be available to the highest bidder, accusing the government. It is evident that State Government has been dilly-dallying to fill both posts yielding to political powers.
