Govt directs to enhance surveillance to curb Omicron spread in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The State Government on Wednesday December 22 directed the district authorities and Health Department officials to enhance surveillance. Also, to curb the Omicron spread, the State Government has asked the concerned officials to designate contact tracers and quarantine observers.

In a circular, Health and Family Welfare Principal Secretary T. K. Anil Kumar has stated, “19 cases of Omicron variant have been detected and “if left unchecked, there could be spike in number of new infections. To make best efforts to prevent occurrence of the third wave of Covid infections in the State, it is necessary to trace, track and quarantine the primary and secondary contacts of Coronavirus positive persons within 24 hours of reporting of Covid positive cases, more effectively,” stated Kumar.

The primary contacts should be tested on the first day and then on the eighth day and also home quarantined for seven days from the date of Covid positive reporting. Further, the international travellers from high risk countries should be quarantined for a week from the date of their arrival, until the follow-up and repeat RT-PCR test on the eighth day, stated circular and added that the primary and secondary contacts who test positive should be treated and managed as per Covid protocol.

Regarding surveillance, he said Health care personnel who are undertaking activities of contact tracing, quarantine and home isolation watch should continue to do so.

All the Covid – 19 positive persons should undergo physical triaging by Medical Officer at the PHC and team on ground as per the prevailing instructions apart from reinitiating the tele-triaging at state-level

BBMP’s central war room, zonal and assembly constituency-level war rooms and all district war rooms have been asked to be reactivated and made fully functional.
