Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to build a ground level Metro station instead of an elevated one at Challaghatta, which would have been built across NICE Road and along Mysuru Road.
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials, a high-powered committee chaired by the Chief Secretary consisting of representatives from various transport bodies, including the Directorate of Urban Land Transport, recently made a unanimous decision on the issue.
“An elevated depot and a bus depot for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses were planned at Challaghatta earlier. However, we have now chosen to build the depot on the ground level. The project cost will be reduced from Rs. 900 crore to Rs. 500 crore by constructing a ground level depot,” informed BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parwez.
